AK-47 | Case Hardened is unique in CS2 — unlike most skins where float value determines price, here the pattern seedis king. The term "Blue Gem" refers to Case Hardened skins where the paint seed creates maximum blue coverage on the receiver, producing a stunning cobalt-blue metallic appearance that is among the most coveted looks in the entire game.

Standard vs Blue Gem: Two Different Markets

A standard Case Hardened sells for $25–35 in Field-Tested condition — a perfectly decent budget skin with the classic gold-blue-purple marbled pattern. However, specific pattern seeds with high blue coverage on the main receiver area can multiply this value by 10–15x or more. Pattern #661, known as the top blue gem, has sold for over $15,000 — and Factory New copies of top seeds have traded for $50,000+.

How Pattern Seeds Work

The pattern seed is a number from 0 to 999 assigned when the skin is created. It determines exactly where the blue, gold, and purple colors appear across the weapon. Seeds that concentrate the blue color on the main receiver body — especially the top and sides visible in first-person view — are the most valuable. Seeds with heavy gold or purple coverage, or blue restricted to non-visible areas like the magazine, carry little or no premium.

Float Value Still Matters

Float value still impacts Case Hardened pricing — a Factory New blue gem is worth significantly more than a Battle-Scarred version of the same seed. However, pattern seed has a far greater impact than float alone. A top-tier blue gem in Battle-Scarred will still command more than a standard-pattern Factory New.
